Superior Schoolhouse Lecture Series
Euclid Golf, The Grand Neighborhood of Cleveland Heights

Wednesday, November 10
7 p.m.

Superior Schoolhouse, 14391 Superior Road at Euclid Heights Boulevard, Cleveland Heights

sponsored by the Cleveland Heights Historical Society and the City of Cleveland Heights Landmark Commission

The Euclid Golf Neighborhood was known as one of the finest residential neighborhoods in the United States when it was developed in the early 20th century. Euclid Golf was built on land owned by John D. Rockefeller, who lent it to the Euclid Club for its golf course. Developer Barton R. Deming employed Garden City principles and deed restrictions to entice the elite of Cleveland, while architects Howell & Thomas, Charles Schneider, and others designed splendid houses in the revival styles that defined gracious living. As prominent Clevelanders made their homes in Euclid Golf, Fairmount Boulevard became known as The Euclid Avenue of the Heights.

Authors Deanna L. Bremer and Hugh P. Fisher uncovered many historic photographs of Euclid Golf while researching their own Euclid Golf homes, and in an attic they found the original drawings from architects Howell & Thomas. Their work has resulted in Euclid Golf's listing in the National Register of Historic Places and the publishing of a new book: Euclid Golf Neighborhood. Come learn the story of Euclid Golf, see the images they uncovered, and get your copy of their new book signed. Appletree Books will have book for sale at the lecture.

Reservations are required. Admission is free, but seating for the presentation is limited to 50 people.

Call 216-291-4878 to reserve your seat. Parking is available at the Cumberland Pool parking lot. Handicapped and special needs parking is provided at the Schoolhouse.
