Scene Best of Cleveland ® 2004: "A surprising number of musicals are mounted each year in which the singing quality appears to be a secondary consideration. This never happens at Kalliope Stage, the new storefront theater in Cleveland Heights dedicated to the American musical. Their production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel was a case in point -- the cast of exceptional singing actors didn't let the Lilliputian dimensions of the space hinder their riveting and blissfully tuneful take on a legendary Broadway gem."

Sculpture in the Heights
Hummel Sculpture in the Heights, a two-year sculpture exhibit presented by HeightsArts, is starting to appear at Severance Town Centre this month with the installation of Carol Hummel's Tree Cozy in front of Cleveland Heights City Hall. When the exhibit is fully installed, there will be a total of 9 sculptures by Ohio artists.

HeightsArts invited sculptors Brinsley Tyrrell, Matthew Hollern, and Laila Voss to both display their work and serve as jurors to select an additional 6 artists for the exhibition. In October, 2004, artists from throughout Ohio (150) were invited to submit materials for consideration. The jurors reviewed their materials the following month and selected Tim Cassell, Micheal Costello, Barry Gunderson, Robert Huff, Carol Hummel, and Paul O’Keeffe to participate.

Hummel, who obtained her MFA in sculpture in 2004 from Kent State University, has an eclectic background educationally and professionally as a photographer, journalist, editor, and owner of a construction company.

Presented by HeightsArts with the support of The Ohio Arts Council, The Coral Company, The Canyon Johnson Urban Fund, Pine Tree Commercial Realty, and The City of Cleveland Heights
