my's Fifth Annual New Year's Day Pancake
Breakfast for HeightsArts fed 461 people and
netted
us $4200 ! Thank you for eating pancakes for the
arts (and 1200 pieces of bacon, kind of scary);
donating Unwanted but Greatly Appreciated Holiday
Gifts for the raffle; leaving with Unwanted by Others
but Appreciated by You Holiday Gifts; and tipping
generously !
Thank you also to Cedar Hill, who played bluegrass to
eat pancakes to; Karin Jones for our arty aprons;
and Ron the Flower Clown who is the most incredible
balloon artist.
And thank you to the 50 volunteers who waited
tables, bussed tables, washed dishes, and generally
were glad they didn't have to get up the next
morning and do it again, except for Tommy, who is a
true patron of the arts. (Especially the culinary
arts.) Thank you, Tommy.

Book Discussion with the Author
Myths of Free Trade by Sherrod Brown
January 11 at 7 pm
Unitarian Church, 2728 Lancashire Road, Cleveland
Heights
Free and open to the public.
Sherrod Brown's Myths of Free Trade: Why
America's Trade Policy Has Failed disputes the
idea that free trade is inevitable or beneficial. He
explores and deconstucts the myths put forth by the
advocates of free trade. He writes about the power
of influential lobbyists and argues that free trade is
not inevitable and that it does not bring human rights
and protections to the world's citizens.
Congressman Brown has served his Northern
Ohio area district since 1992 and is the ranking
Democrat on the House Commerce Committee. He
has fought trade agreements that threaten American
jobs, undermine environmental safeguards, and
eliminate workplace safety protections. He is also a
member of the U.S. House and Senate Great Lakes
Task Force, and works to preserve the economic and
environmental vitality of Lake Erie and all the Great
Lakes.
Brown earned the "Friend of Children and
Children's Hospitals" award from the National
Association of Children's Hospitals. He has sponsored
bus trips to Canada allowing consumers to get
prescriptions drugs for up to 80% less than the price
in the U.S. The American Public Health Association
recognized Congressman Brown with its Distinguished
Public Health Legislator of the Year Award for 2002.
Brown's first book, Congress from the Inside:
Observations from the Majority and the Minority
is in its third edition.
