Philosopher Thomas Kuhn described scientific
revolutions as transformations that lead us to see
the world differently. Art is an agent in this process
by allowing us to “become an inhabitant of the
scientist’s world, seeing what the scientist sees and
responding as the scientist does” (Kuhn, The
Structure of Scientific Revolutions, 1962.)
Michelle Murphy received her BFA in
photography and
digital media from the Cleveland Institute of Art in
2004. Since graduation she has been with RS
Information Systems at the NASA Glenn Research Center as a
Photographer, Digital Imaging Specialist,
and Videographer. In Paradigm Shift, Murphy
combines her interest and experience in
contemporary art and science.
She uses a variety of objects (including screen-
printed t-shirts for sale) and projected imagery to
explore the world of genetically modified plants and
animals
Angela Oster graduated from the Cleveland
Institute
of Art in 2005 with a BFA in digital media. She is
currently Editor of Ohio Citizen
Action's website. Her
cross-disciplinary interests are conveyed through a
combination of drawing, animation, fabric, and
sculpture. In her work for Paradigm Shift, Oster
experiments with a comic aesthetic applied to
scientific theory. She uses animation, sound, and
other media for a humorous look at “matter
organizing itself,” specifically relating to reproductive
issues and evolution.
*The curators and artists will present the exhibition
to Gallery Volunteers at 5 p.m. If you are not yet a
volunteer but want to be one, feel free to join us.

Do the math
So, we are thanking more than 100 volunteers who
worked for HeightsArts during the last couple of
months. Wow. What a terrific, arts-loving
community.
And last but not least, let’s appreciate the
organizational skills of HeightsArts staff Elisa
Meadows and Greta De Meyer, who seem to work
overtime while working part time, and Jonathan
Clemente, gallery assistant.
