Arty Award
Mayor Kelley

In 1934 Cleveland Heights’ first mayor, Frank Cain, was asked by Heights High English teacher Dina Rees Evans if she could present ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in a ravine. Mayor Cain’s enthusiasm for this project led to his oversight of a WPA team transforming the ravine into Cain Park, a nationally known venue for performing and visual arts.

In the tradition of Mayor Cain, Mayor Ed Kelley has appointed the first Cleveland Heights Poet Laureate, installed sculpture on city property, proclaimed the city Home to the Arts, and supported Heights Arts' mission to enrich the quality of life in the Heights by cultivating a strong, diverse, and collaborative arts community. Heights Arts is proud to award our first Arty award to Mayor Ed Kelley in recognition of his vision and support of the arts and artists in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Home to the Arts.
