Coventry Peace Bench
Coventry Bench

Heights Arts has a long history with Coventry Village, starting with The Coventry Arch, Coventry Fences, PARTY in the Heights, and of course our annual New Year’s Day Pancake Breakfast at Tom my's. Indeed, Big Fun owner Steve Presser is a founding member of Heights Arts.

Our most recent project has been developing benches unique to Coventry. We found the perfect artist right here in Cleveland Heights, Raymond Bugelski. Last week Raymond installed the first of an eventual eight benches in front of Tommy’s. There will be four designs, and the benches will be placed the length of the street in about a month. Don’t you love it ?

Meet the Author
Hitch-Hiking

Wednesday, June 7th at 7 p.m.
Mac’s Backs ~ Books on Coventry , 1820 Coventry Road, Cleveland Heights

Elijah Wald, author of Riding with Strangers: A Hitchhiker’s Journey (Chicago Review 2006 ) will read and sign books

Elijah Wald’s Riding with Strangers is a quirky travel memoir about one man who put his life in the hands of strangers. Writer and musician Elijah Wald has hitchhiked around four continents for over 30 years. Riding With Strangers: A Hitchhiker’s Journey documents a cross country trip the author made between Boston and Portland, Ore a few years ago. He wanted to prove that the roadways can be a safe place for meaningful encounters between strangers. Interspersed throughout the travel narrative are chapters on religion, law, adventure, boredom, paranoia and race relations. There is an in-depth history of previous thumbers, starting with Tickner Edwardes, who wrote the first book on hitchhiking in 1910, and a chapter outlining the finer points of the skill. And there are snatches of song and poetry, the errant musings of a modern-day knight of the road.

Wald will be hitchhiking throughout the country during this book tour.
