The Internal Baggage Project
Forced Alterego: The Assimilation Process in America
A Photographic Exhibit by Julius M. Lyles III
Opening Reception Tuesday, February 13
5 to 9 p.m.
through March 3

Cleveland State University Art Gallery
2307 Chester Avenue
Gallery Hours: M-F 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat. Noon-4 p.m.

The Internal Baggage Project leads us into a deeper understanding of the historical racial divide within our society through more than 30 pictures of African Americans. The project encourages Americans to examine their beliefs about African Americans, bringing about a different perspective of disturbing, negative stereotypes that have festered in the minds of American society through visual documentation and interpretation. The goal is to recognize the obvious discriminating practices that occur in American society and abroad within three areas of concentration and find a sense of understanding and healing for generations to come.

Julius Lyles provides complex thought to the voice behind the picture. As a photographer, Lyles is able to capture the human spirit, the conscious mind, and the profound reality of a man's dream to self-discovery.
