No Exit

no exitFriday, April 17 at 8:00 p.m.

No Exitʼs upcoming performances showcase an eclectic mix of avant-garde pieces, the composers as varied and singular as the music. The ensembleʼs artistic director Timothy Beyer commented, “This is a really exciting series of concerts for us….. for many reasons. We are fortunate to have performers who arenʼt just amazing ensembleplayers, but truly virtuosic soloists as well. So, itʼs nice to have the opportunity to do a series of concerts which really lets them shine. Also,weʼve been wanting to do another program which features pieces in the electronic/electro-acoustic medium. While the concert(s) presents so many strong individual voices, it all works so well together, as a whole. Itʼs a great program. Our audience is in for a real treat.”

Featured on the program will be Christopher Starkʼs dramatic and sublime Two-Handed Storytelling, Timothy Beyerʼs visceral Afflictions and works by Edmund Campion, Andy Akiho and Christopher Goddard. Beyer says, “Chris Goddard was amongst the first composers that we (No Exit) performed. Weʼre so happy to be doing another piece of his, a really great piece, frantic and frenetic, titled And Chase. Christopher Stark is someone whom weʼve been wanting to work with for a long time, just a truly brilliant composer. His piece is for piano and electronics and is really a favorite of mine.”

No Exitʼs April performances will include three world premiere pieces, all by local composers: James Praznik, Greg DʼAlessio and Eric M. C. Gonzalez. Beyer remarks, “Greg, James and Eric are all coming from very different places and they all have really strong concepts of what they want to accomplish with their music. These works explore the possibility and variety that a purely electronic medium can evoke and theyʼre all rather engaging pieces. Greg DʼAlessioʼs composition, To Cleave, and to Cleave not, as the title suggests, deals with the ʻconceptʼ of Cleveland and features a visual
component.”
