CALL FOR POETS: 5TH Not Exactly Annual Haiku Death Match

Eight contestants… Who will be the Haiku Master?

2016 Haiku Master Marc Zeale

2015 Haiku Master Marc Zeale ponders the meaning of life (or maybe not)

Heights Arts is once again hosting the fun, funny, irreverent Haiku Death Match, and currently seek contestants for the 2017 benefit.  This ever-popular event, with the Haiku Master chosen by the audience, will take place at Dobama Theater, Saturday, April 8 at 7 pm.  The roster of competitors is limited – only eight  poets will compete – so that each poet will have more time to hurl their syllable-sharp weapons against their opponents, and the audience will have more time to measure the skill of each contestant.

Another feature to this year’s match will require poets to hurl haiku in six specific topic rounds, accumulating audience-awarded points as they go. Topics are: Personal Relationships, Politics, Animals in our Life, The Daily Grind, All Things Cleveland and a final elimination round of classic nature haiku.

If you wish to compete, and can firmly commit to the date of the Haiku Death Match (April 8), please complete the online poet entry form as soon as possible. We will be accepting contestants age 18 and over on a first-come-first-serve basis.  Once chosen, the eight contestants will be invited to a meeting to review the rules of the competition and the structure of the event. Contestants may also have the opportunity to read selections of their haiku poetry on WCLV’s Weekend Radio Program with Bob Conrad.

Tickets for the 5th Not Exactly Annual Haiku Death Match will go on sale to the public on March 1, 2017. $15 general public | $10 Heights Arts members.
