CLEVELAND HEIGHTS HIGH JUNIORS & SENIORS INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Cleveland Heights High Exhibition Sub-Committee Intern Position

By: Laura Yurko

Are you a high school aged artist interested in working in the world of visual arts? Heights Arts, (located right across the street, beside the Cedar Lee) has a new position available for one lucky Heights High artist! The Heights High Exhibition Sub-Committee Internship is a great opportunity for a rising Junior or Senior of HHS looking for active “behind-the-scenes” experience in a public gallery space. Heights Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting local artists that work in a variety of mediums with a wide range of experiences. The application of the artworks exhibited also range, from works displayed in gallery group shows and solo exhibitions to utilitarian art objects sold in the year-round store.

Although the intern would have access to the many functions and events that Heights Arts has to offer, their focus would be in the main gallery and Spotlight Gallery. As part of a committee made up of local professional artists and volunteers, the intern would participate in every step of the exhibition process! This would include reviewing submitted work, curation, installation, scheduling and attending studio visits, and planning future exhibitions.

Many of these processes involve a creative discussion and require feedback and inspiration from all of the artists in the committee. The intern is also invited to attend the openings of the same shows they have helped cultivate throughout the 2018-2019 school year. Artists and art admirers from all over northeast Ohio come to attend these openings, showcasing the final step in the gallery experience.

Applicants for this position must be a rising Junior or Senior of Heights High School, who are available to attend the bi-monthly meetings, installation dates, exhibition openings (the dates can be located at the link listed below!).  If you’re ready to show up prepared, eager to participate and most importantly work as a cohesive member of the Heights Arts Team, this internship may be for you! The Heights High Artist awarded the internship will receive a $250 stipend, with half distributed mid-year and the balance at the end of the term.

Students may apply at https://www.heightsarts.org/employment/ with a deadline of July 1st, 2018 to be considered for the 2018-2019 school year.
