Heights Music Hop @Heights Art

Saturday, September 24, 2016 from 5:30 to 10:00 p.m.

Join us for the fourth annual Heights Music Hop, where we celebrate the best of our local music scene, our small businesses, and our community. COMPLETE TWO-DAY MUSIC HOP SCHEDULE.

Sam Silverman performs on the piano at 5:00 p.m. (presented by the JFSA)

sam-silverman-2-300x300Sam Silverman grew up in Shaker Heights and Beachwood. He started writing music at the age of 14, then studied piano and violin at the Cleveland Institute of Music, in addition to learning guitar (and even painting them!).

Among Sam’s accomplishments are national recognition from the Music Educators’ Conference for The Rebirth of Dreams; winning the Young Composers of Piano Competition at Heidelberg College, an Ohio statewide contest, for Rousseau’s Jungle Images; and having a piece, The House in the Sky, selected by Orchestra of Our Time (a New York grammy-winning ensemble) in an international “Call for Scores” Project.

Red Brick Rhoades performs at 6:30 p.m.

Singer-songwriter Red Chrosniak learned guitar to make his habit of doodling lyrics on old envelope backs both productive and sustainable. Far from her native prairie, Becca Rhoades lends her improvisational fiddling skills and a little of her Texas drawl to the songs he writes. Red and Becca started playing together upon discovering their shared love of heart-free dancing, getting lost, and making both mischief and music. Their voices create a sweet lyrical blend with the fiddle harmonies and their onstage chemistry is often augmented with cheeky interplay.

Trepanning Trio performs at 8:30 p.m.

Trepanning Trio is an acoustic instrumental ensemble which makes oddly beautiful music using classical, traditional and handmade instruments (i.e., viola da gamba, guzheng, pan lids screwed onto sticks and played with violin bows, etc). Contrary to its name, Trepanning Trio performs with a rotating lineup of six to fourteen musicians.
