August Artist of the Month: Musical

Originally from Columbia, Mississippi, Buck McDaniel is the 2018/19 Kulas Composer Fellow at Cleveland Public Theatre. His works have been performed internationally both in Europe and across the United States including New York City, Detroit, Washington (DC), Pittsburgh, Boston, Seattle, Cincinnati, and Jackson (MS). Commissions include new works for the Tanglewood Music Festival (MA), Pipeworks Festival (Ireland), Hereford Cathedral (UK), Lincoln Cathedral (UK), the Cleveland Museum of Contemporary Art, and the No Exit New Music Ensemble. As an arranger, he has worked with composer Nico Muhly, Cleveland-based bands Mourning [A] BLKstartimes10, and ITEM.
A frequent collaborator with Cleveland Public Theatre, recent projects include composing the live score for the nationally acclaimed production of Fire on the Water, and as arranger/ orchestrator for the world premiere production of Everything is Okay.
Recent projects include a sound installation in collaboration with producer Jacob Kirkwood and artist Chelsea Polk commissioned by the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, settings of Richard Wright haiku for tenor Matthew Jones premiered at the University of Pittsburgh, a Nina Simone arrangement for singer Kyle Kidd premiered at the Cleveland Museum of Art, and a new work for organist Derrick Meador premiered at the National City Christian Church in Washington, DC.
