A Poem for Cleveland – Book Release and Celebration

Saturday, June 24th from 2pm-4pm

Cleveland Public Library – Main Branch

Heights Arts is pleased to celebrate the maginificent work of our most recent exiting Cleveland Heights Poet Laureate. His current project, A Poem for Cleveland showcases  a “mosaic” of Cleveland – telling the story of the city through peoples’ individual experiences here. The project is funded by the Academy of American Poets grant, along with collaborative support from the Cleveland Public Library, the Center for the Book and Heights Arts.

The “Poem for Cleveland” project is a way to pull together much of Ray’s current work as a teaching artist into one collaborative mission. In some ways, the project is an extension of his 2015 book “Love Song for Cleveland,” featuring photography by Tim Lachina. It also harkens back to his “Collinwood Story Project,” which gave longtime North Collinwood residents a platform to share their stories about the neighborhood.

This time around, McNiece gathered a group of teenagers, young adults and older adults from different backgrounds and locations in the city to create poetry together.

The book release and celebration event will take place at the main branch of Cleveland Public Library. It will feature performances by poets from the Poem for Cleveland Anthology and the Tongue in Groove Band.
