Heights Arts Announces New Initiative: Random Acts of Art

By Amanda Bohn

Heights Arts announces the launch of a brand new initiative called Random Acts of Art. Despite the fact that Heights Arts cannot be open to the public right now, Heights Arts staff have been busy creating ways to continue to connect online with artists, musicians, poets,  creative members of the community and arts appreciators who are unable to experience the work in its space on Lee Road next to the Cedar Lee Theatre in Cleveland Heights.

Random Acts of Art is an opportunity for artists, musicians, poets and creative community members within Cuyahoga County to showcase their work. The goal of this project is to continue Heights Arts’ mission to celebrate the region’s literary, musical, and visual artists, and share their contributions with the community, despite the current restrictions on public gatherings. Heights Arts will share both Heights Arts programming and will also accept and host artists’ digital images and videos or at-home or at-studio visits, and will consider any relevant type of work that can be shared through its channels. The organization began accepting submissions on Tuesday, April 28th.

Executive Director Rachel Bernstein states: “I am truly excited to launch this collaborative program, and am looking forward to seeing and hearing the work that will result. Many may not know that we started twenty years ago as a grass-roots organization with a focus on showcasing the incredible creativity among Cleveland Heights residents. Since then, we have seen our organization expand to support visual artists, poets and musicians across the county. Even now with our doors closed, I see this as a way for audiences to continue to connect with the important work of our local artists, and provide the artists and community members sheltering in place with an outlet to share their creativity.”

Applications are open to all professional artists, musicians and poets and creative community members creating art at home. More information about applications are located at https://www.heightsarts.org/call-for-artists/ under Random Acts of Art.This project is not just for those who officially identify as professional artists, musicians and poets” Bernstein adds. “We hope to get plenty of submissions from residents who want to contribute their music-making, poetry or art created at home. We have already posted some contributions by community members in addition to our own, branded programming, to encourage people to get inspired and create!
