Spotlight Showcase: Bernadette Glorioso

Many of us have found ourselves spending more time outdoors since the start of the pandemic. We notice an instant mood boost when the sun is out and the fresh air rushes through our lungs. Heights Arts latest Spotlight Showcase as part of our 2021 Group Show reflects exactly this.

Bernadette Glorioso’s work, much like nature, is both beautiful and abstract, pulling from her time outside over the past year. “Since my move back to Cleveland I have been inspired by the breathtaking Metroparkst hatsurround my neighborhood,” she says.

“I can’t deny the impact of nature’s lively inhabitants. My bold interactions with deer, squirrels, skunks, owls, and my brush with a groundhog has strongly influenced my art.”

Her work is a combination of paintings and mixed media, creating an almost 3-D effect, and causing all who view Glorioso’s work to reflect on their own experiences.

“Similar to biomimicry, my work observes the natural interaction of the wondrous animals and how it relates to the human response of problem solving and interpersonal communication. With a strong need for digital interaction during our pandemic, how has this influenced our natural and grounded response to social skills and basic human interaction? This series is an optimistic reflection of life’s complexities,” she says.

View Bernadette Glorioso’s work on display from March 19 through May 16. The public is encouraged to visit Heights Arts at 2175 Lee Road to view the exhibition. The opening will be by appointment between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. on March 19th.
