Emergent 2015

September 4 – October 17, 2015

Emergent 2015 exhibition C JimenezHeights Arts continues to celebrate the finest “local produce” of Northeast Ohio with a new annual exhibition, Emergent 2015, opening Friday, September 4 and running through October 17.  The show features artists who graduated from area art programs in recent years and are now producing significant work.

Throughout history, many regions in the world have provided fertile environments for vibrant artistic production, and Northeast Ohio during recent decades has produced a steady stream of accomplished visual artists trained at institutions including the Cleveland Institute of Art, Kent State University, Cleveland State University, the University of Akron, Oberlin College, and other fine studio art programs.

Eleven artists are included: Joanne Arnett, Jerry Birchfield, Abbey Blake, Robert Coby, Matthew Gallagher, Clotilde Jiménez, Joshua Maxwell, Bridget McGuire, Joseph Minek, Nicholas Skowron, and Shawn Watrous.

Join us on Thursday, October 1 at 7 p.m. for EKPHRASTACY: an artist talk and reading of original poems by local writers, created in response to the works on view.

Emergent 2015 is the first exhibition in Heights Arts’ recently renovated gallery, which was funded by a gift from the Jean, Harry and Brenda Fuchs Family Foundation. In recognition of the Fuchs family commitment to the creative spirit of the Heights, the renovated exhibition area will be named in their honor, with a spotlight exhibition of paintings by Brenda Fuchs featured as part of Heights Arts’ reopening celebration on September 4. A 1962 graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art, Brenda was a lifelong artist who shared her passion for art through working with patients in the VA Hospital, decades before art therapy became a recognized form of treatment.
