June Literary Artist of the Month – Dayshawnda Ash
Dayshawnda Ash is a multifaceted artist born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. As an actress, singer, painter, sculptor, dancer, poet, and writer; art was her escape from bullying. Within the last few years, she’s been focused on play and screenwriting. “My purpose is to help tell the stories of those who never get a chance to share their story.”
She has recently been accepted in the creative writing program at the University of Nebraska, Ohma where she will be obtaining her Master’s in Creative Writing (Playwriting/Screenwriting) and will be attending her residency in July and starting school in the Fall. Ash’s writing influences are Jordan Peele, Shonda Rhimes, Stephen King, and Spike Lee. “I love horror and thrillers. My goal is to create thrillers and horror for the stage.”
Even though she’s focused on writing, she does still perform from time to time. You can hear Ash voice Audrey II at Rubber City’s Theatre Production of Little Shop of Horrors running June 7-29, 2024. You can also hear her read poetry at Heights Art’s Ekphrastacy on July 18.
