Chester Hopkins-Bey

Chester Hopkins-Bey is a multidisciplinary artist whose creative journey began in his childhood, making art since he was just five years old. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in nearby Cleveland Heights, his roots are deeply intertwined with the vibrant culture and rich history of the region.
Chester pursued his passion formally at Central State University, a prominent HBCU (Historically Black College and University), where he earned a degree in Studio Art/Graphic Communication. This academic foundation equipped him with a versatile skill set, allowing him to navigate and excel across various artistic mediums.
His practice encompasses drawing, painting, installation, and poetry, demonstrating a commitment to exploring expression through different forms. Chester’s work is characterized by its dedication to the communicative power of art and his love of Black Culture.
A passionate advocate for his hometown, Chester draws significant inspiration from the creativity and history of Cleveland.
