Emily Brannan

Emily Brannan is an installation artist and object maker. She is interested in fertility and the female reproductive system. Her work explores mothers throughout nature and their methods of nurturing their young, the pain and alterations their bodies go under as well as their existence as fertile beings.

She is a recent graduate earning her BFA in Sculpture and a minor in Metalsmithing at the University of Akron, Myers School of Art. She continues to broaden her skill set and stay involved within the arts community as she is now working as an artist assistant. Emily has participated in various group shows such as, Industrial Installs at Spectrum Gallery in Akron, Ohio, and Art Shows Are Good in Barberton, Ohio.

Emily’s participation in an installation with Myers artist in residence, Julie Schenkelberg, taught her the value of collaboration and conceptual thinking in her own work. As a member of the Akron Coalition of Sculptors, Emily worked with her peers and the West Hill Neighborhood Organization to create a public sculpture in a pocket park in Akron where she could get involved in her community and work with others to improve the area’s landscape. She is a recipient of The Folk Charitable Foundation Venice Biennale International Travel and Study of Art Scholarship.
