Jimena Horta

Jimena Horta is a Mexican Photographer and Visual Artist based in Cleveland, OH.
Born in 1992 in Cancún and raised on the island of Cozumel (MX), she has lived in different countries throughout her career, including England, Spain and the United States. She holds a Bachelors in Communication and Filmmaking from the Universidad Anáhuac and a Masters Program in Photography & Artistic Projects from PhotoEspaña.
She has complementary studies in Visual Arts, Photojournalism, Writing and Poetry. During the last five years, she has been doing a self study of Psychology, and exploring different therapeutic methods which have been key to her artistic practices.
Her photographic practice is based on daily life, trial and error, and mostly an intuitive and visceral way of making photographs. She’s convinced that what she photographs reflects her unconsciousness and that has become an endless game of self discovery; that’s her main goal as an artist. She has found through photography a way to fail and make mistakes with the chance of transforming it to something that has a meaning beyond its own nature and taking on more symbolic concepts.
Her work has been shown and made part of private collections in Mexico, Chile, Spain and the United States.
