Myrya Johnson

“Color inspires me, especially the tribal colors of the African cultures and their connection with Mother Earth. I find that these colors bring me to a place of freedom and rawness of self-expression. It is the place that I need to be when I create. When I am in that mental space, I allow the Spirit that comes to me to guide me… I have learned to listen.” Johnson’s deeply personal garments and dolls were previously shown in seenUNseen, AAWR’s landmark 2019 exhibition of African American art.
