Andrea LeBlond

Andrea LeBlond combines 2-D designs with 3-D structures to create pieces that inspire touch, play and daily use. LeBlond is inspired by the bold design and the vibrant color juxtapositions in vintage textiles. She uses these designs as inspiration to create textured patterns on her slab-built pieces.
The textured patterns are made by pressing clay slabs into carved linoleum blocks. The linoleum breaks down over time so each design has a limited life-span. Hand-made paper patterns are placed over the slabs for cutting out the shapes that are assembled to construct various functional objects. This process incorporates 2-D design and texture onto a three-dimensional object. This technique is enhanced by transparent glazes that run and pool in the crevices much like cloisonné metalwork.
Since graduating with a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1995, Andrea LeBlond has taught in the ceramic departments of numerous schools including Cuyahoga Community Colleges’ Eastern and Metro campuses and the University of Akron.
For the past 14 years LeBlond has kept a professional studio at several locations, the last ten at TerraVista Studios. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants, among them an Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award, received in 2008.
