Steve Garfunkel

I have lived in NE Ohio since 1969. When I retired, I sought a new endeavor that would allow me to create something fun and unique. I took several local art courses as well as enrolling in many YouTube tutorials.

I gravitated to non-objective mixed media abstract. I work intuitively on. I enjoy experimenting with all types of expression. I consider my art as a natural evolution and reflection of my improvisational approach to life.

I’m challenged by the problem-solving and intrigue of each piece. My “process” is to keep applying color, material, and marks until I like what I see. It’s fun and energizing to create something that lights me up and is alive, provocative, and visually pleasing.

I like ambivalence and contrast. I think my art reflects the tumultuous times I – and we, collectively – live in. I tap into my own conflicting energies. I’m not afraid to express my darkest or brightest emotions.
