Yasmeen Kwan

Yasmeen Kwan is a ’26 undergraduate at the Cleveland Institute of Art studying for her BFA in Painting. Her work utilizes painting and ceramic sculpture to critique orientalism and appropriation of Black and East Asian culture in the Western world, cross-referencing history, racial hierarchy, art and aesthetics that have shaped harmful perceptions about the people. Her work has been exhibited in the Student Independent Exhibition 78 and 79 at the Reinberger Gallery, the Black Scholars & Artists club exhibitions at the Cleveland Institute of Art in Cleveland Ohio and at The Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. She has also been awarded the Eastman (1912)-Bolton Memorial Prize in recognition of a promising Junior majoring in Painting.
