OPEN CALL FOR VISUAL ARTISTS

Heights Arts invites Northeast Ohio professional artists and curators to showcase and sell their work through group exhibitions, Spotlight exhibitions, and our gallery store.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Please review carefully to ensure your application can be reviewed by our Exhibition Community Team.

Artists & Curators must:

1. Live in Northeast Ohio
2. Provide a brief artist statement or proposal, a one-page resume/CV, and up to 5 images of representative work.
3. Be willing to collaborate with Heights Arts to promote the exhibition, and related events, and communicate in a timely manner to arrange the details of their exhibition.

Exhibitions are booked up to 18 months in advance and applications are evaluated within a maximum of 4 months from date received.

*Approved submissions do not guarantee exhibition inclusion: artists will be provided opportunities as they become available.

The application deadline for joining the Store prior to the years Holiday Store is August 31st.

*Store applications received after that time will be reviewed after the conclusion of the Holiday Store.

ABOUT OUR EXHIBITIONS & STORE

Exhibit or Curate
We present five group and five solo (Spotlight) exhibitions annually and accept proposals from individual artists, groups, and guest curators year-round. Curators are required to submit a list of potential artists in their proposal in addition to the general concept for approval. The Exhibition Community Team will assist artists, groups, and guest curators in finalizing the selection of artwork to be exhibited. Proposals are reviewed within 4 months of the date received, with exhibitions scheduled 12–18 months in advance. Artists receive 60% commission on sold work. We use a rolling submission model, alongside occasional calls for entry, to streamline placement and response times.

Sell in Our Gallery Store
Our year-round gallery store showcases hand-crafted work by local artists, including jewelry, ceramics, prints, glassware, textiles, photographs, and more. We accept submissions from Northeast Ohio artists on a rolling basis, and welcome unique, high-quality pieces across a variety of media. Artists receive 60% commission on sold work.  Applications are reviewed bi-monthly until August 31st for inclusion in that years Store prior to the annual Holiday Store. Applications received after August 31st will be evaluated after the conclusion of the Holiday Store (typically by February of the next year).

General Information

• All submissions are review by our Exhibitions Community Team.
• Heights Arts will install the artwork.
• Heights Arts is not responsible for any shipping or transportation costs of  artwork.
• Artwork does not need to be listed For Sale to be included in a group or Spotlight exhibition.
• Participating artists are invited to attend an Ekphrastacy Artist talk + Poets Respond event 5 weeks after the opening of the exhibition. If comfortable speaking to crowds, artists are invited to give a brief 2-3 minute introduction to their work before poets perform their responses.
• Approved submissions do not guarantee inclusion in an exhibition. Approved artists will be provided opportunities as they become available.
• Priority will be given to approved artists who are new to the program or who have not participated within the past two years.
