JFSA Presents Beyond the Cherry Blossom

August 5 – 20, 2016

 Beyond the Cherry Blossom
Organized by the Jewish Family Service Association of Cleveland (JFSA), “Beyond the Cherry Blossom” showcases client artwork inspired by Asian art and culture.

The JFSA and PLAN Art Therapy programs help individuals with mental illness use creative expression to enhance cognitive growth and quality of life.

Each year art therapy groups work together to study a particular art movement. The project typically includes sessions focused on the art, drama, architecture, music, fashion, and culture of that particular movement, as well as the influential artists working during that time period. This year our theme is “Beyond the Cherry Blossom.”

The art making process for the Beyond the Cherry Blossom began formally in January of 2016. During this exploration of Asian art, clients have been exposed to the art of countries such as China and India, experimented with multiple mediums, and explored the cultural significance of topics such as mythology and mindfulness. Each client contributed their own unique talents to create this extraordinary exhibit.

This traveling art exhibit is supported in part by: The residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture | Fran & Jules Belkin Family Creative Arts Program at JFSA | The Michael Talty & Helen Talty Charitable Trust.
