Materialized, Matthew Hollern

MATTHEW HOLLERN

January 19 – March 4, 2018

Curated by Heights Arts exhibition committee member Pamela Argentieri, Materialized: Seven Artists Working in Metal showcases work by artists who share methods and values revealed by their working process, skill, craftsmanship and a deep understanding of material. “Northeast Ohio has a long tradition of sculptors, blacksmiths, silversmiths and designers working in metal,” says Argentieri. “This community and its institutions continue to support the careers and education of its artists.”

The exhibition brings together works of art by local artists David L. Deming, Mark Hartung, Matthew Hollern, Jacquie Wynn Kennedy, Seth Nagelberg, and Stephen Yusko, along with curator Argentieri. The works demonstrates  new and traditional ways of using metal and inventing form, and offer an an opportunity to see how objects are materialized; through sketches, models, pattern,s and prototypes. “The work of these artists reminds us of several themes, industrial vernacular, the study of form and function, innovative use of technology, and visual metaphor,” notes Argentieri.

The community is invited to a public reception for Materialized: Seven Artists Working in Metal on January 19, 6-9 p.m. A related gallery talk, Ekphrastacy: Artists Talk + Poets Respond offers an opportunity to hear both glass artists and local poets speak about the exhibition works on Thursday, February, 15 at 7 p.m.

Materialized will be on view through March 4, 2018.
