SPOTLIGHT: Erik Neff

Fleeting, Erik NeffJune 24 – August 6, 2016

An exhibition of abstract  drawings by Cleveland artist Erik Neff opens Friday, June 24, with a public reception from 6 to 9 p.m. in the spotlight gallery space.

Neff notes about his work, “Like the process itself, the idea of an “abstract narrative” can be a state of contradiction or irreconcilability. Inherent in making abstract paintings are formal concerns of figure and ground relationships, color and shape juxtaposition, but the process is also inflected with a reordering or the intrusion of observed and remembered objects or phenomena. It is the means by which the process of painting can slow and extend perceptions of sight, thought and emotion and allow for various and simultaneous possibilities to exist.”

Erik Neff has exhibited in galleries and museums in Cleveland, Youngstown, New York and Chicago, including the Akron Art Museum, MOCA Cleveland, SPACES gallery, McDunnough Museum, Devening Projects + Editions, Bonfoey Gallery, Raw & Co gallery and Elizabeth Harris Gallery. He lives and works in Geauga County, Ohio.

Erik’ s drawings will be exhibited in the spotlight gallery through August 6, 2016.
