This work is one of 3 retro-futurist ikons completed in 2021. They are the results of collaborative efforts that included Ohio ceramic artists and the Belden Brick Company in Dover Ohio. Materials and firing were supplied by Belden Brick. The bricks were carved while still wet and then fired in a turn of the century beehive kiln. The “Steam-Punk Ikon Series” are a continuation of earlier works done on majolica on earthenware. They reference eastern orthodox religious ikons and turn of the century technology used to illustrate our current reverence for technology in place of traditional religious beliefs.
