Herbert Ascherman Jr.: 40 Years
September 2 – October 15, 2016
An intimate study of Herb Ascherman’s thought and vision from 1975 to the present, Herbert Ascherman Jr.: 40 Years is the first career retrospective of Cleveland’s preeminent living portrait photographer.
While making his living in portraiture, Cleveland photographer Herbert Ascherman also pursued passions in other photographic genres—street photography, nudes, and landscapes.
Drawn from the 150,000 black and white negatives in his archive, this exhibition gathers approximately 60 key works from all of those interest areas that powerfully represent his wide-ranging career.
Herbert Ascherman Jr.: 40 Years features new gelatin silver and platinum prints of every image, produced in small editions on the occasion of this show.
Join us for the opening reception on Friday, September 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. A related gallery talk on Thursday, September 29 offers an opportunity to hear Herbert speak about his life in photography, as well as hear new poetry written about the works on view.
Herbert Ascherman Jr.: 40 Years will be on view through October 15, 2016.
