June Artist of the Month- Visual

Gene Epstein

Gene Epstein has a bachelor’s degree in art from Oberlin College and a Masters of Fine Art from Kent State University. She has taught in the art departments of Tri-C, CWRU and Lorain County Community College. Most of her recent work is book related. Epstein has made sculptures from books by folding and cutting pages. Some of her other work includes new bindings using original text, drawings and/or photographs. Her book art was featured in a 2011 book published by Gestalten titled “Book Art – Iconic Sculptures and Installations Made From Books”. Epstein was the designer, fabricator and installer of the giant book mural on the outside of Loganberry Books on Larchmere. She works as a bookbinder at Strong Bindery. WHERE TO SEE HER WORK:

Gene has artwork on display in our Gallery Store. She was the designer, fabricator, and installer of the giant book mural on the outside of Loganberry Books on Larchmere. She is locally known as a jazz bassist. You can hear her play at many venues including at the Larchmere Tavern on Monday evenings.
