Hope Hickman

Hope Hickman is a multimedia artist, originally born in Northeast Ohio. Her artistic training was received through informal mentorships in folk-art both in and around Asheville, N.C.

Currently, Hope’s work investigates the mundane and the ironic, with particular attention to contemporary life within the American suburbs.

In addition to her paintings and sculpture, she is well known for her ceramic jewelry. That of which recycles antiquated motifs in metalsmithing. The work is ironically made of dirt and toilet paper (ceramic with paper pulp for lightness) then coated in 22K gold and is part of a larger discussion examining value, desirability, and capitalism.
